A third party run for Gore?
Now that Gore has won the big one there’s no stopping the media endorsements.

From the pro-active draftgore.com to the policy advisors from his 2000 run are pushing for Gore to run. The media seems especially interested in all the maybes rather than the candidates who are actually running: from Newt Gingrich to Mike Bloomberg to Al Gore.

Noam Scheiber of The New Republic writes:

Watching Al Gore take a well-deserved victory lap this afternoon, I couldn’t help wondering what George W. Bush must be thinking. I mean, I know the guy still believes history will vindicate him and all, but, really, this has got to be pretty painful. Bush, according to various accounts of the 2000 campaign, absolutely despised Gore. He regarded him as a preening, self-righteous phony.

So Bush somehow manages to avenge his father’s defeat and vanquish the vice president of the United States. And yet, seven years later, it’s Gore who’s being hailed around the world as a prophet and a savior and Bush who, if he’s still being discussed at all, is mentioned only as the punchline to some joke, or when his poll numbers reach some new historic low. It must eat him up.

The question is does Gore really want to run? As people from the other camp say – after winning an Emmy and an Oscar and a Nobel does Gore really want to go down that road of painful memories and possibly battle a Clinton? I think not. MSNBC’s political pundit Chuck Todd suggests a different route to the White House:

On Tim Russert’s show yesterday, Todd had this to say:

“I’ve always had this theory that if he did it, he would do it on his terms. And that also means his own party. Meaning I think that you read that book, “The Assault on Reason,” and you read the beginning, that’s a man who thinks that the entire system is broken.

Well, if you believe the system is broken, then you run outside the system. And you go—you know, Gore-Bloomberg”.

That would actually be pretty neat. Unity’08, get ready!
